Review of the Coastal Navigation CDROM.
***** 5 star rating given to this module (the only navigation CD to get a perfect score) and "Yachting Monthly Best Buy Award"

"Its menu based approach is easy to use and pictures and animations are clear and high quality. Clear diagrams and lots of examples combined with punchy text to give an easy learning experience.

The Academy of Maritime Training has added an excellent interactive CDROM on radar to its other interactive learning products.
…. The learning material is well thought out and the information is organised in such a way that there is a minimum of menus to navigate.
Good use is made of animation, pictures, video, voice and quizzes to maximise the effectiveness of training.
The centrepiece of the CDROM is a full-featured radar simulator that looks and operates like a real radar set and includes 11 different scenarios and an assessment section. The controls all function as they do in the "real world".
Operating the controls with the mouse is intuitive and very easy.

Defence Maritime Services

"Defence Maritime Services [DMS], as a Registered Training Organisation, offers competency based, workplace training to its employees. The training covers a range of marine courses in both deck and engineering qualifications. With business units around the country, the delivery of the knowledge components of these courses was a challenge.
We trialed the interactive learning materials produced by the Academy of Marine Training and found them to be an excellent resource. We now use them as our preferred method of delivering this training because they provide a cost effective and efficient means of meeting our needs."

"In my previous job in the UK I was responsible for computer based training (CBT) for the Royal Navy and so I have seen lots of similar software.
I found yours to have a professional, superior look. I was genuinely impressed."

TESTIMONIAL BY ROSS "ROSSCO" CLARKE RE. MARITIME CDS

Ross Rossco has been a senior sailing school instructor with Sunsail since 1996 and is based at the Sunsail Maritime Academy on Hamilton Island.

"I have been using traditional teaching methods to instruct marine courses for years now. Although they do the job, it is often hard to maintain my student's attention during those less exciting units! So naturally I was interested when I found out about the new Training CDs from the Academy of Maritime Training and ordered the Collision Regulations, Marino Radio and Coastal Navigation editions hot off the press.

I am the first to admit that sailors and computers don't normally mix so I was a bit hesitant about how technical these interactive CDs would be. But if I could get the hang of them straight off the bat, then anyone can! They are really fantastic tools for teaching students the more complex subjects of collision rules, navigation and correct radio procedures - the CDs give a clear explanation in laymans terms, and the quizzes are a great way to get my students completely hooked.

I use these CDs for teaching Marine Radiotelephone Operations course and as a major part of my Inshore Skippers and Coxswains courses, and have found that the information is more quickly absorbed by my students when I use the CDs.

I would highly recommend these CDs to anyone who wants to teach themselves at home, or for trainers looking for effective ways to get the message through! Rossco

Marine Radio training CDROM
"...this CD is one of the best training aids we have seen on the subject.
Of particular note are the live examples of voice procedures.
The CD is well worth the investment"
